Guisborough Arts: a community-led arts project to:
BUILD the arts centre that Guisborough needs but lacks
POPULATE the building and the town with a packed programme of arts events
BRING careers, money, better health and better education outcomes to the people of Guisborough
ADD the spark of creativity and innovation to all our activities
… until our town becomes an arts town
We know our town wants the arts here. In 2013, 500 people marched through Westgate calling for a theatre in the town; in just 2 days 4,000 people signed the petition. Today (2023) they still do not have what they asked for. Our arts building will contain performance and gallery spaces, with room to run workshops and classes.
By putting on arts events we will prove the demand still exists. Growing engagement with our audience will enable us to develop financially viable and fair ways to price and fund the art, which include everyone.
Nobody should be excluded because of their financial circumstances, origins or life chances.
